The Russian search engine Yandex has announced that it is aiming for a 50% share of the Russian mobile search market. It also wants a total search engine market share in the high 50s, which looks at both mobile and desktop together. Yandex currently dominates desktop searches in the country. Yandex has seen its share of mobile searches grow in recent months, jumping from 38% in Q2 to 41% in Q3 2017. This has been helped by Google finally allowing Russian smartphones running on its Android operating system to install other search engines. Previously, it had blocked the installation of the Yandex search app, a decision which it finally reversed in April this year after pressure from the Russian anti-competition watchdog.
