Yahoo Sees 10% Fall In Advertising Revenue

Yahoo, which is due to release its figures for Q3 2016 later this week, has seen a substantial double-digit fall in advertising revenue, following a 3.5% fall over the same period in 2015. Following the drop of 10%, eMarketer predicts however that the company will see a return to growth in 2017 and 2018, but of less than 1%. This prediction comes just after Yahoo was in the headlines for suffering one of the largest data hacks ever, and news reports of a secret data surveillance programme. eMarketer said that “with email at the core of Yahoo's user base, we do expect recent privacy concerns to have at least some material effect on Yahoo's display business in the future”. Meanwhile, as Yahoo loses revenue in online advertising, rivals around the world such as Google, Baidu, and Sohu, continue to see their search ad businesses grow.
