WeChat is the most used new media app in Macao, according to research by the Macao University of Science and Technology. WeChat was the most used app amongst 72% of survey respondents, beating competitors such as Weibo and Facebook. Around half of respondents said that they used WeChat for one hour a day on average, but 19% said that they used it for more than 3 hours daily. Usage seems to be unrelated to income or job industry, with respondents coming from a cross-section of society. The most popular WeChat account in Macao was that of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.Â
