WeChat Emerges As Key Mobile Ecommerce Platform

2 September 2015. The Chinese electronics giant Haier has said it wants to reach 1 million vendors on WeChat in the next 12 months. WeChat is the most popular social messaging app in China, with a staggering 500 million users. Anyone can open a Haier store on WeChat, with sellers earning a 2% commission on all sales plus discounts if they purchase a Haier product for themselves. Haier takes care of inventory and delivery, with items being shipped from the nearest warehouse using the company's own Alibaba-backed logistics network when a customer places an order. There are currently 100,000 Haier vendors on WeChat, the same number as rival Suning and more than its other rival Gome. Haier has 10,000 physical stores in cities across China, and hopes that boosting its mobile ecommerce presence will help to expand its reach further.
