A deal has been signed in Russia that will allow for improved rail delivery services between Europe and China. The deal was struck between the president of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, and the CEO of Russian Post, Dmitry Strashnov, and will lower logistics costs for retailers and distributers, whilst also speeding the process up. Belozerov said that the route between Europe and China, through Russia, has “seen a significant increase in ecommerce”, adding that the new deal should become profitable for suppliers and cheapen delivery costs for customers. Meanwhile, Strashnov claimed that it would also “establish favourable conditions for Russian exports”, in both directions. The deal represents the first time that there will be a direct railway delivery route between China and Western Europe.
