German Ecommerce Market Grows 12% In 1 Year

Ecommerce in Germany has seen an increase as more consumers buy from more product categories. According to the German ecommerce and mail order industry association, BEVH, the German B2C ecommerce market saw an increase of 12% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017. The home furnishing sector saw the most impressive increase in sales, with online sales going up by 34%. Computing accessories and “daily needs” (such as food, pharmacy items and pet care) saw similarly notable growth of 30% and 25% respectively. Helped by this, the first six months of 2017 saw an overall rise in ecommerce sales of 11% over the first half of 2016. It is forecasted that the German ecommerce market will see an overall growth rate this year of 11.3%, to reach a value of 65 billion US dollars.
