EU Might Investigate Google's Travel Services

There are rumours that Google might soon be put under investigation by the European Commission, this time over its travel price comparison services. The European Commission has not yet released an official statement, but several news sources, including the Times Of London and Politico, have reported that sources from within Brussels have said that they are in the process of investigating the search giant's flight and hotel services. If the EU decides that Google is guilty of forcing travel companies to buy advertising space in order to get visibility in its search results, then it could face huge fines. A spokesperson from the European Technology and Travel Services Association has condemned Google for allegedly doing just that, saying: “Google leaves competitors with no choice but to buy visibility”. Earlier this year, the EU found Google guilty of similar anti-competitive practices relating to its shopping ads and fined the search giant 2.7 billion US dollars.
