Chinese Marketplace Tmall To Launch In Russia

Tmall to launch in Russia in mid-October

Tmall is to launch in Russia in mid-October, according to sources familiar with the matter. Tmall is a popular B2C online marketplace and is owned by Alibaba, one of the biggest ecommerce companies in China. If the rumours are true, then it would make Russia the first country where Tmall has launched outside of its home market of China. Tmall's Russian version is currently in test mode, with the fully operational version set to go live in mid-October within the AliExpress platform. The sources said, however, that even though Tmall will be located within the AliExpress platform, it will operate as a completely separate online store. Products sold on the Russian Tmall platform will be delivered from warehouses within Russia, rather than shipped over from China, meaning that delivery times will be faster. If the platform is a success, then it will further cement Alibaba's footprint in the country. It already has a strong presence in Russia, with its AliExpress platform being one of the most popular ecommerce sites in the country, with 15 million monthly users.
