Airbnb has invested in an app for restaurant reservations. The company, which is known for its success in the hotel industry, is heading up a round in a restaurant booking app called Resy, worth around 13 million US dollars. Following the investment, Airbnb will integrate the restaurant service into its own app to offer more options to holidaymakers. Currently, Resy is only featured in 50 cities around the world, but the new investment should see the service expand into some of the same markets that Airbnb currently works in. Airbnb’s CEO, Brian Chesky, said that the plans were a key part of the company “moving beyond just accommodation, to focus on the whole trip”. He also added that Airbnb would work “in close consultation” with every restaurant that signs up to the service.
