The platform is due to overtake newspapers within four years
A study into social media advertising spend has found that it is growing substantially year on year. The media company Zenith found that advertising spend on social media is growing at around 20% each year, and that the platform will overtake the newspaper industry within four years. Michael Becker, managing partner at mCordis, commented that “the newspaper industry did not react fast enough to the rise of the digital”, whilst adding that “more and more individuals are using social media, not just to interact with their friends, but to discover news”. It is also noted that multiple brands are already moving successful promotions to social media, such as Budweiser’s Super Bowl campaign this year.
