Short for 'Uniform Resource Locator', a URL is the address of a resource on the Internet, along with the protocol by which that resource is accessed. The most common protocol type is 'http' (hypertext transport protocol), which gives the Internet address of a world wide web page:
http://www.WebCertain.com/
Some other URL types are "gopher," which gives the internet address of a gopher directory, and "ftp," which gives the address of an FTP resource.
